Hibi wa Sugiredo Meshi Umashi – Episode 11 – The Delicious Christmas Party

June 22, 2025 by chikorita157 Leave a Comment
Yep, they stayed a bit too late.

With Christmas and the holidays approaching, Mako decides to host a Christmas party. She is growing some winter vegetables on the balcony as she asks Sakura for some advice.

Funny to see the Clerk lady have Tsutsuji in her arms.

Before the event planning, Shion, Nana, and Tsutsuji are studying for exams. It’s amusing how they were locked out of leaving since the building closes early during the exam period. It leads to them finding a way out, which turns into some kind of horror story. That is when Tsutsuji overheard the young lady clerks working in the office mentioning a hooded girl wandering the halls at night. The rumors of clerks catching them might put an end to the club and scare Tsutsuji.

Yep, it’s a nice Christmas party.

The amusing thing is that when the Clerk comes out of the office, Shion, Nana, and Tsutsuji try to escape, but Tsutsuji is unable to keep up. The lady clerk eventually catches her. It’s funny how Tsutsuji pretended to be a sheep before seeing the hooded lady in front of her. Thankfully, they didn’t receive any punishment, and the rumors are false. It’s amusing how Shion begs for forgiveness. The funny thing is that the hooded lady is just Sakura herself, who got locked out from leaving the building.

Funny how Mako package is just a box of leaves, instead of Shion’s present.

As for the Christmas party, Nana bought some Santa outfits. It’s like a Santa hat and a cloak of some type. The funny thing is Shion is left with the reindeer headband. They had chicken, salad, soup and some kind of bread with toppings on it. The gifts that the girls exchange are predictable, although Mako couldn’t give Shion her present, consisting of bath bombs, since she missed the delivery. The funny thing is that a package got delivered. The funny thing is that Mako thought it was Shion’s gift. When she opened it, all she found was dead leaves and dirt. Believe it or not, it was from Sakura to help with her garden. At least they are getting a White Christmas.

Hibi wa Sugiredo Meshi Umashi – Episode 10 – Childhood Friend Reunion and Cooking at a Traditional Japanese House

June 15, 2025 by chikorita157 Leave a Comment
Obviously, waking up early and driving on a highway for long distance does not mix.

With the festival and finals done, Mako is going to go home to visit her parents. Shinon is also considering going back. Eventually, Mako came up with the idea of staying over at her grandmother’s house.

Kurea collapses on top of Tsutsuji.

As expected, Kurea seems tired after waking up early and driving to their destination. The house is a traditional Japanese dwelling featuring a kamado stove and an irori. There is also a modern fridge with ingredients they can use.

Lighting a fire the old fashioned way is not easy.

As Mako and Shion headed out, Kurea took a rest. Essentially, Nana and Tsutsuji attempted to prepare lunch for her. They had difficulties lighting a fire using charcoal to lit a fire under the irori, and Tsutsuji struggled to make the fire bigger. The funny thing is that there was a lighter to make the job easier. They just use the irori to boil water for instant ramen.

Mako and Shion get a reunion with their old childhood friends.

Mako and Shion, of course, ran into their old childhood friends they hadn’t met since elementary school. They are Yuna and Hiyori, and yes, I mistaken their names. They seem amazed by how much Mako has grown, although she denies it. Either way, they recalled that moment they couldn’t afford a parfait at that restaurant, but now, they can. They, of course, shared what they are currently doing. Interestingly, Mako never reconnected with them, as she had never had a cell phone until high school.

Yuna and Hiyori are aware of the club activities Shion and Mako are involved in. They also walk around town, reminiscing about the times they spent there as children before parting ways.

Nice to see Mako take a selfie group photo of their time staying at her grandmother’s house.

Eventually, Shion and Mako came back. They prepared a traditional Japanese meal using traditional and old-fashioned Japanese cooking tools. The taste differs from that of using modern cooking appliances. They, of course, took a group selfie around the irori, as she wanted to create a memory of them staying at her grandmother’s house. Mako seems happy as she browses her phone filled with memories of her friends, and she wonders if they will reminisce about them together one day. I guess time will tell.

Hibi wa Sugiredo Meshi Umashi – Episode 9 – Serving the Special Dish

June 8, 2025 by chikorita157 1 Comment
Shion is in it for the money.

With summer coming to an end, the culture festival is coming up at the university the girls attend. Shion and Mako gets the idea to do a stall. While it’s funny how Shion just want to do the taste testing and the planning.

Oh no! They are going to eat Shikanoko!

Yep, not too surprising to see Shion take a laid back role. That said, figuring out a dish that stands out is the hard part. At least Sakura came by to offer her vegetables as a way to advertise her club, and even went to a special shop that sells game meat. That also means deer meat as they use Venison in the curry soup they came up with. Yes, they are eating Shikanoko (I’m being sarcastic here.)

Nana realizes she has to interact with strangers.
Like Bocchi, the only way for Nana to communicate is to cover her face.
Yep, Shion is the only one that stands out.

Also, there is Nana’s social anxiety issues. When she realizes that she has to serve customers, this is when her anxiety increases. Tsutsuji asks Nana to work on those issues, but she has a hard time talking to other women on campus. That is until she puts a cone on her head is when she could give directions to the media wing to a female student. Yep, Tsutsuji basically made a bunny costume for Nana to wear so they can pass out flyers during the day of the festival. I find it funny how Shion didn’t get the news that Tsutsuji and Nana were going to wear costumes, which make her seem like the weird one.

The mascot that Mako follows is actually at the university.

At least it works out in the end as they manage to sell the whole supply. Sure, Mako seems disappointed that they can’t do the second day, but at least she made memories of having fun doing the food stall. Also, even the clerk is surprised that the club Shion created is actually doing club activities the club name says instead of using it as a social hangout. Also, Tsutsuji saw that mascot that Mako seems to like. Since it mentioned curry, well I guess someone bought the dish to have it featured. I wonder what will come out of this.

Hibi wa Sugiredo Meshi Umashi – Episode 8 – Beating the Summer Heat, by Harvesting and Wearing Yukatas

June 1, 2025 by chikorita157 1 Comment
Yep, her Chameleon escaped and is near her older sister, who doesn’t like it.
Yep, it licked her.

This episode was pretty straightforward as it appears the girls have their plans, with Shion asking everyone if they want to go bowling. Nana has to take her pet Chameleon, Pocchi, who escaped the cage. It’s because Nana forgot to close the case. It’s funny to see Nana freak out when she has tea and cake. Nana’s older sister doesn’t like Pocchi. Nana tries to distract her so she can get Pocchi, but it is too late. It licked Nana’s older sister’s face.

Trying to keep cool when the AC is out.
Tsutsuji knows how to cool herself down in the heat.

The next day, they went to the club room. The AC won’t turn on. Tsutsuji and Kurea discover the broken AC as they find Mako, Nana, and Shion lying on the floor. Eventually, Sakura from the agriculture club came by, reminding them of their obligations to help that club out. Essentially, they assisted in harvesting the vegetables from the garden. Also, it’s funny to see Tsutsuji look at the hose while watering the plants. She decides to put the water on herself to cool herself, and Shion wants some.

The girls have dinner wearing yukatas.
Well, we find out Shion forgot about the AC maintenance all along.

At least they received vegetables in return, which they used to make vegetable tempura. That is, while wearing yukatas, they borrowed from the Japanese Clothing Club. I find it amusing that after they ate, the clerk came to sign some papers regarding the AC maintenance, which is why the AC hadn’t worked for about a week. It shows that Shion is not club president material as she is very forgetful.

Hibi wa Sugiredo Meshi Umashi – Episode 7 – Club Trip in Paradise

May 25, 2025 by chikorita157 Leave a Comment
At last, that fabled beach episode is here!

Sure, the driving trip that the girls took teased the possibility of a beach episode. While Mako deals with her weight woes, Kurea and Shinon plan a club camping trip. When the girls went to a tropical place, I hope this episode will make it up.

The girls had pizza too.

Yes, it did, although the rain in the afternoon ruined the girls’ plans to have pizza and go to the beach to have fun. They stayed in, and I find it funny how the girls didn’t recognize Nana when she let her hair down. Besides watching horror movies, Nana seems scared of horror movies. Also, hearing the story of the indoor sports festival, Nana tripped, crashed into the judge’s panel, and injured a guy. Yes, it shows how unathletic Nana is, and she can’t seem to remember it. Kurea is the only one who can’t come up with a story since she didn’t particularly like her high school years. It feels as if she is left out.

There is also a flashback Mako had with Shion, Nana, and Tsutsuji, who wanted to buy a parfait but couldn’t afford it. Mako invites her friends to her house to make cookies. It’s nice that when the girls decided to go to a good spot to look at the fireworks, that is when Mako said she was unable to make memories after going to a different middle school than she did in elementary school. She couldn’t fit in, but she hoped to make memories in the club and was thankful to Kurea. With that, Kurea reaches out to Mako and encourages her to create more memories together. After all, Kurea reaches out to her to join the club.

It’s nice to take a look at Mako’s past with Shion, and even Tsutsuji and Nana during their childhoods. Only one that is not part of the group was Kurea.

At the same time, the beach scenes are nice. Seeing the girls play in the ocean and relax on the beach was nice. Also, it’s nice to have back-to-back beach episodes with Slime Taoshite 300-nen Shiranai Uchi ni Level Max ni Nattemashita 2 having theirs on the same day. Also, the girls had pizza, which made me want to have some too.

Hibi wa Sugiredo Meshi Umashi – Episode 6 – Mako’s Weight Woes

May 18, 2025 by chikorita157 Leave a Comment
That is one big pancake.
She is really enjoying it, but…

Mako, with Kurea, Shion, Tsutsuji, and Nana, went to a fashion shop Nana’s older sister owns. Yep, it’s surprising that Nana’s older sister dresses like a gyaru girl. After they had lunch, Mako had a big plate of Max Pancakes with berry sauce. It’s a foreshadowing of what is to come.

She can’t fit in the clothes she tries on.

The episode’s primary focus is that Mako becomes subconscious about her weight when she tries on a skirt and can’t zipper it up. She wonders if she had the wrong size, but it was the size she usually wears. When she weighed herself, she went on a strict diet.

Mako goes on a diet and exercise.
Her efforts paid off, but she only got back where she was.

It’s interesting to see an episode of Mako, Tsutsuji, and Nana exercising and losing weight in an anime focusing on delicious food. Mako went on the treadmill while Tsutsuji did various exercises, and Nana did weights. They struggled, of course, but they kept at it. Eventually, Mako manages to bring down her weight back to when she started university as her new skirt fits. However, she needs to get past that.

Moral of the story, balance is key.

Seeing her lack energy after going on a diet of only bean sprouts. As expected, there needs to be balance, and Tsutsuji suggests Mako having a cheat day once in a while. After all, the clerk tasked Kurea and Shion to take photos of the group eating to put on the website. Yes, they had burgers, and Mako was crying while eating it. Still, when she got home, she thought it was okay to have another snack and another since she could just burn it off. Sadly, I have a bad feeling that her progress will reverse.

Hibi wa Sugiredo Meshi Umashi – Episode 5 – On the Whim Road Trip

May 11, 2025 by chikorita157 1 Comment
Yep, Shion failed the driver test.

Kurea and Shion decide to get a driver’s license. It’s funny how Kurea is the one who studies while Shion tries to do the bare minimum. The funny thing is that Shinon failed the test as she left the testing room. Still, the funny thing she said is that one of the rules of driving is not to hit people with a car. Wait, she realizes that driving a vehicle is unlike in Cyberpunk 2077 and Grand Theft Auto?

Nana’s social anxiety takes hold in front of Kurea’s mother.
Shinon is not used to highway driving.

The girls go on a road trip with Kurea and Shion in the driver’s seat. As expected, Nana is shy around Kurea’s mother as she lets them borrow the van. Seeing that they drive without a destination makes it seem like one of those unplanned trips Chika takes. What is funny is that Shion manages to get herself on a freeway and is afraid since there are a lot of cars, and she is not used to them. It took a while to get used to it, and it’s easier than driving on local roads. It’s a matter of getting used to those trucks.

Sure, it’s not the traditional beach episode, but at least they had great seafood dishes.

Eventually, Kurea took over, and they went to Tsukiji, where they ate various seafood. It’s funny how Nana froze up quite a few times, especially when they determined groups and Nana was alone in one group. Thankfully, that didn’t happen. Also, they went to a beach and rented a grill to have a seafood dinner. No swimsuits here, of course, but at least it was nice to see the girls do an on the whim day trip.

Hibi wa Sugiredo Meshi Umashi – Episode 4 – The Shy Nana

May 4, 2025 by chikorita157 Leave a Comment
Nobody could imagine that Nana used to look like this.

A new member joins the Food Culture Research Club. It’s a girl named Nana, who probably has the worst anxiety problems when it comes to strangers. It’s one of the friends Shinon, Kurea, and Tsutsuji made during grade school. Given her prior looks of her having black hair and bangs that covered her eyes, she is the introverted member of the group.

Despite changing her appearance, she can’t get over her anxiety issues with strangers.

Nana wanted to create her puzzle-solving club, but she couldn’t recruit any members, given her looks. When she changed her hair and wore fashionable clothing, two ladies were interested in joining. However, her anxiety about strangers causes her to become unable to talk, and she eventually runs away. Yep, it reminds me of a cross between Hitori and Ikuyo, to be exact.

Thankfully, with Nana helping Mako with her German, at least Nana became less anxious towards her, especially during dinner. That is when Mako and Shion, who brought back some meat from her job, cooked some skewers and sandwiches. At least Nana got to apologize to Mako for accidentally bumping into her. While she becomes more open with Mako, when it comes to the clerk looking after clubs and talking to Mako, Nana becomes anxious again as she hides herself. I guess Nana getting over her anxiety problems with strangers is going to take a long while to resolve.

I like how Nana is more outgoing when she is closer with Mako.
When the clerk tried to talk to her, Nana becomes anxious as she hides.

Hibi wa Sugiredo Meshi Umashi – Episode 3 – Shion’s Money Problems and the Weekend Trip

April 27, 2025 by chikorita157 Leave a Comment
Shion has money problems.
Even after following the clues, Shion can’t find her wallet.
She found it after all.

Now the club is finally established, Shion wants to go on a trip. The funny thing is that she misplaced her money. Yep, she tried writing clues around her apartment. Seeing the girls try to find where Shion put the money is fun. The funny thing is that Shinon never hid the money, so she still has it. While it’s not the best way to prevent oneself from saving money, at least she still has it.

Shion wants that indirect kiss.

As for the weekend trip, seeing them have fun taking the lift, having a dango, visiting temples, and climbing that long staircase was nice. It’s funny how Tsutsuji was tired of climbing all those stairs and drinking an energy drink to get a short burst of energy, just to get tired again. Mako eventually notices the restaurant that Mokotaro, a mascot, visited. Believe it or not, the girls eventually went to that restaurant, where there is a framed image commemorating Mokotaro and featuring the restaurant on the show. Also, the girls got to see a nice view.

At least they ended with a nice meal.

It’s funny to see Shion walking with a hiking cane. It appears that she is anxious since she spent all her money. Yep, she should probably take some financial education classes to learn how to save her money before going out with her friends.

Hibi wa Sugiredo Meshi Umashi – Episode 2 – Cooking to Prevent the Club from Disbandment

April 20, 2025 by chikorita157 Leave a Comment
Uh oh, their gig is up!

Mako finally joins the Food Culture Research Club, but she discovers that the club has nothing to do with cooking. Yep, Shinon, Kurea and Tsutsuji made the club just to have a club room. It becomes apparent that after the girls clean up the room, they bring furniture to hang out.

The funny thing is the lady who received their club activity application came to check on them. It’s weird how they started to act anxious after she mentioned fake club applications to get rooms. If the Food Culture Research Club doesn’t show any evidence of activities from their application, their club will be disbanded.

Well, at least thanks to Mako’s motivation to cook, they found stuff from other clubs to make their club activities a reality and made Camembert curry pilaf. At least they are saved by the bell, but of course, they need to make an effort to keep doing the activities they are supposed to do. That said, at least the food that Mako cooked looks good here.

At last, the girls do the activities mentioned on the application, cooking of course!

Dekoboko Majou no Oyako Jijou – Episode 6 – The Case of Strangely Shaped Fairies?

October 29, 2023 by chikorita157 Leave a Comment
Not surprising to see Viola’s reaction to seeing this fairy.

Well, 1 segment for the whole episode that focuses on Alyssa and Viola trying to restore a rose garden. Yes, a butt-shaped fairy named Hip was tasked to restore Anna Fiatoio’s garden her father left her. We find out her father is a gardening enthusiast.

Yep, the garden is in this shape because Sweet Cheek, Hip’s older brother, doesn’t like Anna’s new fiancé she is about to marry. It’s not terribly attractive, but it looks like Sweet Cheek doesn’t like how someone else will look after Anna. Also, he couldn’t communicate with her since humans that can use magic can only see them.

Aside from that, it was an okay and straightforward episode. Sweet Cheek concludes that Anna’s fiancé is not bad and eventually comes to terms with reality. But still, I think Viola’s reaction to seeing fairies shaped like a butt is the funny part of this episode, besides Sweet Cheek throwing a durian at Anna’s fiance’s face. That does not look like a fairy, even though Alyssa said they can come in various shapes.

Dekoboko Majou no Oyako Jijou – Episode 4 – Failed Matchmaking and an Egg Surprise

October 15, 2023 by chikorita157 Leave a Comment
Basically, this Odorigui creature is basically James’s Victreebel.

As expected, Elf Boy causes some trouble with Viola by trying to play matchmaker with an Orc with Viola. As expected, it doesn’t go well for that Elf Boy.

There’s not much to say about the first half. The Elf Boy tries to do some matchmaking with Viola, who is not an elf but a tall witch. As expected, Viola has no interest in this orc besides becoming its friend since he seemed nice enough.

As expected, Viola summoned an Odorigui, which eats the elf boy. Yes, Viola even transported the elf guy to match with Odorigui, who seems to have a liking for him. Viola got a laugh out of this, but it’s obvious to prevent the elf guy from mating with Alyssa. I have a feeling that this will become a running gag.

Wait, did Alyssa laid an egg.

In the second half, Alyssa comes back with an Egg. I find Viola becoming shocked that the egg Alyssa brought back was hers, which is halarious. In reality, it wasn’t hers but from some Lizardkin. Of course, Viola is scared to drop and break the egg, but she does hold it after the Lizardkin thanks them. Overall, it’s a pretty funny episode.

At least Viola didn’t drop it.

Dekoboko Majou no Oyako Jijou – Episode 3 – Reminiscing at Photos in a Magical Photo Album and Viola Catches a Cold

Alyssa is obviously protective of Viola.

Since this is primarily a comedy show with little plot, I won’t be doing full reviews of this show, especially given how packed this season is. Also, it’s hard to review an episode that is entirely comedy and not too much plot. With that, shorter improvements will be posted here on Kireina Yuri, except for the last episode.
